The Matching Process at RockinDachs
We do not place companions at random, and we do not let families choose based on appearance. Those two decisions are the foundation of everything that follows.
Personality mismatch is the leading cause of failed placements. Our job is to eliminate that outcome before Homecoming Day ever arrives.
Why We Match — Rather Than Let You Choose
A prospect’s true character is not reliably readable until around seven weeks. Before that, you are choosing based on coat and color — which tells you nothing about what life with that dog will actually look like.
At seven weeks we conduct the 4-Point Evaluation. That evaluation, not family preference, determines the match. It is the most important thing we do.
The 4-Point Evaluation
Every prospect is assessed across four pillars:
Connection — Desire for human engagement and eye contact. This tells us how naturally a prospect orients toward people and how readily they will bond with a new family.
Compliance — Willingness to follow direction and accept light restraint. This predicts trainability and how a prospect will respond to household structure and boundaries.
Confidence — Recovery time after an environmental startle or new stimulus. This tells us how a prospect will handle change, new environments, and the inevitable surprises of family life.
Drive — Primary motivation: Food, Toy, or Praise. This shapes how training should be approached and what kind of engagement your household needs to provide.
The Compatibility Evaluation
After the 4-Point Evaluation is complete, enrolled families are invited to a Compatibility Evaluation — a Google Meet conversation where we walk through the litter results and discuss your household, your lifestyle, and what you told us in your Legacy Home Application.
This is not an interview. It is a conversation between people who both want the same outcome: the right dog in the right home.
From there we identify your match, introduce you to your prospect, and explain the reasoning behind it. You will know exactly who is coming home and why.
What Comes Next
Once the match is confirmed, the $500 Reservation Fee formally holds your prospect. From that point forward, we keep you updated on their development until Homecoming Day.
